Today we read (again)

Hello book lovers!

Ok so anyone who knows me knows I usually have my head in a book or am handing out my books to friends and family telling them to read it!

So I thought I’d do a quick little blog on my top reads for 2019 (Previous book blogs can be found here and here).

This is going to hurt by Adam Kay

This book is probably the first book that has made me genuinely laugh out loud when on the train. It’s such an easy read, hilarious but also heartbreaking at the same time. A real insight into the life of the NHS doctors and a book I highly recommend to anyone!

A perfect book to take on holiday with you…

Sane New World by Ruby Wax

So if you’re reading my blog or even on my website I think you may already have some sort of interest into yoga/ meditation or mindfulness… maybe you don’t and you just come here for the recipes, whatever it might be this book is a great starting point. Ruby Wax has a fun and approachable writing style and explains difficult topics like mindfulness, anxiety and depression in a simple way. The book goes into a lot of scientific detail (if you like that) and even if not there’s fantastic drawings to make you laugh.

She leaves you with mindfulness practices you can do by yourself and helps you find ways to build it into your life.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

Having studied Auschwitz when I was in school this book was something I knew I had to read. It’s not for the faint hearted but it’s heartbreaking and beautiful both at the same time. Based on a true story, the book goes through the ins and outs of life on camp and usually leaves you wide eyed and in shock… but somehow not wanting to put the book down.

And my final two books are ones that have really helped me post endometriosis (book post found here).

The Gynae Geek by Dr Anita Mitra

This book explained so many medical terms I had heard over the past few months but broke it down into words I could understand. I started to understand the cycle and myself so much more.

Something I wish I had been given in secondary school instead of going to Biology class.

Period Power by Maisie Hill

This book is literally my textbook to refer to now. There’s so much detail in here and Maisie talks about the cycle in seasons (spring, summer, autumn and winter).

The thing I loved the most about this book is that it helps you understand your emotions and energy levels… understanding how the hormones fluctuate throughout the cycle and how you can understand why you’re feeling a certain way. Serious game changer!

So there you have it… some of my top reads for this year! I’ve got my next stack of books at the ready but if you have any more interesting reads then let me know!

Love A x
